List Your Business / ADChennai: On the occasion of Diwali festival, 14,086 special buses are going to be operated in Tamil Nadu, according to Transport Minister S.C.Sivashank.
A consultation meeting was held on Monday at the Chennai Chief Secretariat under the leadership of Minister Shiv Sang regarding the operation of Diwali special buses.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Minister Shiva Sang said:
Ahead of Diwali festival, 14,086 special buses will be operated in Tamil Nadu. 11,176 buses will be operated from Chennai and 2,910 buses from other districts.
5.83 lakh people are expected to travel to their hometowns while special buses will be run along with regular buses from October 28 to 30.
From November 2nd to 4th, in addition to the 2,092 buses that will be operated daily from home to Chennai, 3,165 special buses, 9,441 buses and 3,165 special buses, 12,606 buses will be operated from other major cities.
Additional buses will be plying from Koyambedu Bus Stand to Klambachat round the clock.
Instead of 5 places in Chennai, this time Diwali special buses will be run from only 3 places namely Koyambedu, Madhavaram and Kalamakkam.
Booking for special buses has already started. A total of 9 booking centers are functioning at Klambakkam and Koyambedu bus stations. So far 1.02 lakh flights have been booked to go home.
Klambakkam Bus Stand: Puducherry, Cuddalore, Chidambaram, Trichy, Madurai, Thoothukudi, Sengottai, Tirunelveli, Salem, Coimbatore, Vandavasi, Polur, Thiruvannamalai, Kumbakonam and Thanjavur routes will be operated from this bus station.
Koyambedu Bus Stand: East Coast (ECR), Kanchipuram, Vellore, Bengaluru, Tiruthani route buses ply from this bus stand.
Madhavaram New Bus Stand: Andhra state route buses via Ponneri, Oothukottai and regular Trichy, Salem, Kumbakonam and Thiruvannamalai buses will be operated from here, he said.
Also, there is no plan to privatize the transport corporation. Actions have also been taken to hire and operate private buses as per requirement. 7,200 new buses will soon be procured for the State Transport Corporation. Due to the development of the Government Transport Department, various private companies have stopped the operation of buses.
High fares in omni buses: can file a complaint
In case of overcharging in omni buses, public can lodge complaints on 18004256151, 044 26280445. Also, public can file complaints at the complaint centers set up at bus stations. A consultation meeting will be held with Omni bus owners on October 24 regarding the fare issue. The Minister informed that further action will be taken to prevent fare theft of Omni buses.
For the attention of those going to their hometown by car...
Those going to their hometowns by car should avoid going through Tambaram and Perungalathur. Instead, Minister Shiva Sang has advised to use Tirupporur, Chengalpattu and Vandalur exit road.
